In these times of seemingly series of “unfortunate events”, it’s refreshing to know that a Pinoy once again makes the Philippines proud!
Marlou Acedera, a budding Motorcycle Mechanic, won and was declared over-all Champion in the first-ever Asean MC Mechanic Contest held in Bangkok, Thailand, last Tuesday, 20th Oct 2009. This was contested by Champions from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam & the Philippines.
Marlou Acedera of Philippines, declared over-all Champion in first Asean Motorcycle Mechanic Contest
How did it all start?
To help uplift the status of the mechanic profession and give this oft-forgotten heroes of the motorcycle world a chance to show their skills and expertise, Castrol, the leading global brand in MC oils & lubricants, initiated a program called the Mechanic Contest. In the Philippines, we held 4 legs which started in April 2009. The 4 leg champions faced-off in the final round where we chose the Philippine over-all champion to represent the country in the ASEAN final round.
It was a gruelling tussle of wits (written exams), skills (practical), and speed (with time limit). But it was all worth it as the over-all champion made history, with trophies, Ca$h prizes, trip abroad, and chance to witness the Moto GP race in Sepang, Malaysia.
The contest was graced by the Honda Gresini Racing Team. And they were so impressed by the Filipino champion’s skill & speed that he was invited to be part of the mechanic pool supporting the Honda Gresini Team in the Moto GP race in Sepang, Malaysia over the weekend.
